Britain Kinetics of Thiamin Cleavage by Sulphite
نویسندگان
چکیده
Results are presented on the rate of thiamin cleavage by sulphite in aqueous solutions as affected by temperature (20-700), pH (2.5-7.0), and variation of the concentration of either thiamin (1-20,UM) or sulphite (10-5000,UM as sulphur dioxide). Plots ofthe logarithmn ofpercentage ofresidual thiamin against time were found to be linear and cleavage thus was first-order with respect to thiamin. At pH 5 the rate was also found to be proportional to the sulphite concentration. In the pH region 2-5-7-0 at 250 the rate constant was 50M-1hr.-1 at pH5-5-6-0, and decreased at higher or lower pH values. The rate of reaction increased between 200 and 70°, indicating a heat of activation of 13.6kcal./mole.

Evidence in man for different specialized intestinal transport mechanisms for riboflavin and thiamin.
Man has a limited capacity to absorb riboflavin (1-3) and thiamin (4, 5). The gastrointestinal absorption of these vitamins is describable by Michaelis-Menten type kinetics, characteristic of saturable, specialized absorption processes (6). Both vitamins are phosphorylated in the intestinal mucosa during absorption (7-9) and there is evidence suggesting that this process is the basic mechanism ...
متن کاملتعیین سطح پلاسمایی تیامین در بیماران همودیالیزی: یک روش دقیق کروماتوگرافی با کارکرد عالی
Background and Aim: Renal replacement therapies are usually associated with changes in trace elements and metabolism of vitamins. Multivitamins are administered routinely to dialysis patients in dialysis centers. Thiamin plasma level is a good indicator of nutritional state of the patient. In this study, a sensitive high-performance liquid chromatography HPLC method for determination of the...
متن کاملThe Risk Assessment of Sulphite Intake through Dried Fruit Consumption in Hamadan, Iran
Background: Dried fruit is one of the main sources of sulphur dioxide (SO2) exposure. The major goal of the current study was to determine SO2 concentration in some widely consumed dried fruits in Hamadan, Iran. In addition, an estimate of sulphite intake was made through the aforementioned dried fruit. Methods: Totally, 126 dried fruit samples were randomly collected from local market in Hama...
متن کاملBiodegradation of sulphosuccinate: direct desulphonation of a secondary sulphonate.
The bacterial biodegradation of a secondary sulphonate, sulphosuccinate, has been shown to occur by direct desulphonation. A bacterium, designated Pseudomonas sp. BS1, was isolated from activated sewage sludge, for its capacity to grow on sulphosuccinate as the sole source of carbon and energy. Cultures grown on sulphosuccinate were able to convert this substrate to sulphite which was subsequen...
متن کاملThiamine transport in Escherichia coli: the mechanism of inhibition by the sulfhydryl-specific modifier N-ethylmaleimide.
Active transport of thiamin (vitamin B(1)) into Escherichia coli occurs through a member of the superfamily of transporters known as ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporters. Although it was demonstrated that the sulfhydryl-specific modifier N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) inhibited thiamin transport, the exact mechanism of this inhibition is unknown. Therefore, we have carried out a kinetic analysis of ...
